Rumor: Yankees will watch Zumaya throw

Joel Zumaya throws about 100 mph, but has been dealt with constant injuries over the past couple of years. His latest injury was an elbow fracture that has kept him out for 18 months and has required two surgeries.

Still he’s just 27-years-old so teams will watch him throw next week and according to Joel Sherman of the NY Post, the Yankees will be among them.

Zumaya has dealt a number of shoulder, elbow, and hand injuries over the years, but has always been able to maintain nearly 100 mph velocities. The Yankees will send a scout to watch him and if he can still get it up around 100 mph they will certainly be interested. Because of his history he will probably have to settle for a non-guaranteed contract with incentives based on appearances.
