Prince Fielder joins Tigers on 9-year $214 million deal

Prince Fielder finally found a team, the Detroit Tigers, as the two sides reached an agreement on a nine-year and $214 million deal, various media outlets have reported.

Prince is headed to Mo-Town where his dad Cecil Fielder built his legacy.

The Tigers supposedly signed Fielder to play first base and Miguel Cabrera will DH or play third base again. If Miggy doesn’t take to playing third again it will create a logjam once Victor Martinez returns in 2013 as that will stick Detroit with three players whose primary positions are first and DH.

I definitely think the Tigers overspent here. They will be on the hook for a player who comes with durability question marks, no speed, and is only so-so defensively at a non-essential position. Mark Teixeira‘s contract is already questionable, Fielders likely will eventually be an albatross. The Tigers will be one hell of a team in 2012 though.
