Rumor: Posada still retiring despite Montero trade

After the Yankees traded DH Jesus Montero to the Mariners it slightly, just barely, opened the door for Jorge Posada to un-retire and return as part of a DH platoon next season. However, according to Jack Curry of the YES Network, Posada will go ahead with his retirement as planned.

Not a big shock, but based on Posada’s will and determination this did need to be confirmed. After all, he did consider positions with the Rays, Marlins, and Orioles before he announced his retirement.

Posada had just a .315 OBP and .714 OPS last season, but against right handed pitcher those numbers increased to .348 and .814 respectively. Certainly not bad as part of a platoon with Andruw Jones who mashes lefties. It does appear that Posada’s career is officially over.
