Another option to fill the Yankees open DH spot is Carlos Pena, who said on MLB Network Radio’s Home Plate program that he has been in touch with the Yankees and that he will continue to evaluate his options.
I discussed the possibility of using Pena in a DH platoon and I like the idea, but the Yankees only have about $1-$2 million to spend on the DH, according to Jon Heyman of CBS Sports. If they stick to that it seems very unlikely that Pena is a real option as he is coming off a season in which he made $10 million with the Cubs. That’s too much of an extreme pay cut.
He is a solid option though and I wouldn’t rule him out. They insisted they didn’t have the money to sign Kuroda and they did. They also like him, he used to be in the organization and they tried to acquire him at the deadline last year.
