Rumor: Yankees have been in contact with Hideki Matsui

The latest rumor in the Yankees quest for a DH is that they have apparently reached out and contacted Hideki Matsui, according to Jon Heyman of CBS Sports.

Matsui, who turns 38 in June, is not cut out to play full-time as he had a .321 OBP and a .375 slugging percentage that pales in comparison to what he’s done in the past. He really couldn’t be apart of a platoon with Andruw Jones either as he hits lefties significantly better than he does righties at this point.

It is understandable that Yankees fans might want Matsui and even Johnny Damon back, but they are simply better off without either. They are just not the same players as they once were and if the Yankees did sign them it would just get sad very quickly.

Have to,agree. Cant win with sentimental PR crap.
Theyre both old and done. What is Marcus Thames too busy?

  2. Tanned Tom says:

Thames is playing in Japan. They don't even need a DH. A-Rod will get 50 games there for sure. Then between Jones (30), Jeter (20), Cano (10), Swisher (10), Teixeira (10), Granderson (10) you're at 140 games. So better to carry a second utility inf (Chavez?) and let it go at that.

  3. NYYJJinATL says:

To carry out your plan, they need a guy like Martin Prado who has a good stick and can play everywhere.

    • Gonzalo says:

I prefer Chavez over Prado, to be always there and play everywhere we have Nunez.
Chavez is a very good quality globe and lefty, the 3 possible players at DH bat right (ARod, Jones and Jeter)

Keep Posada for another Year watch how he'll Surprise everyone! Give him another shot ONE MORE YEAR!

  5. Shavager says:

I agree, Posada hits from both sides, is a better clutch hitter than Jones and could be emergency catcher if needed. Don't understand why Yanks would rather keep Jones if Posada would sign for similar money. Matsui a DH and that's all, at least with Damon you get an extra OF who can still play.
