Luis Ayala was a bit of a surprise for the Yankees last season as they signed him for insurance and he ended up being a big contributor. Since then he has drawn a decent amount of interest as a free agent, but apparently not enough that it is the middle of January and he still hasn’t found a team.
The Yankees have maintained interested in re-signing him though and still do, according to Ben Nicholson-Smith of MLB Trade Rumors.
It wouldn’t be bad to see him come back to the Yankees next year, but it would be hard to expect similar production. So really, unless he signs a very reasonable contract they are probably best just moving on. The Yankees have a full bullpen already with so many young arms ready to come up and start contributing soon.
You can never really have enough pitching though. So we’ll keep an eye on Ayala’s movement.
