The Yankees were literally the first name attached to Yoenis Cespedes when his name became prevalent this offseason, but in the end the Yankees were barely involved with the 26-year-old Cuban outfielder. Instead he signed a four-year $36 million deal with the Oakland Athletics, according to Tim Brown of Yahoo Sports.
Cespedes didn’t really fit with the Yankees because they have a full outfield right now. He could have been a decent replacement for Nick Swisher, who can leave via free agency a year from now, but it wouldn’t have made any sense for Cespedes to play an entire year off the bench or in the minors.
