Rumor: Talks of Burnett for Hafner trade are over

In their search to find a team willing to trade a DH-type for A.J. Burnett, the Yankees briefly considered a deal that would have netted them Indians’ DH Travis Hafner, but according to Nick Camino of WTAM 1100 in Cleveland, those talks are over.

The 34-year-old Hafner has averaged just 91 games per year over the past four seasons and is owed $13 million next year plus another $2.75 million for an option year buy-out. That $15.75 million would have complicated things between the two sides and probably complicated the deal.

The injuries scare me, but a healthy Hafner would have been much better than any of the options already on the free agent market. Unfortunately the deal didn’t make a lot of sense for the Indians.

Too bad, this guy would have been perfect. He DHs 90 games, Andruw Jones gets 30, A-Rod gets 25, the remaining 17 get spread around. I'm guessing Cleveland wanted money for Burnett's second year, but I'd gladly pay it.

    Hafner sucks without the juice.
