The Yankees are getting closer to adding a DH and according to Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports, they are in serious talks with outfielder Raul Ibanez, who would be willing to accept less money to head to the Bronx.
Ibanez, 40-years-old in June, had a lowly .289 OBP and a .707 OPS last season. Against righties, which would be his primary duty with lefty masher Andruw Jones in the mix, those numbers increased to a .307 OBP and a .747 OPS.
Many have suggested that he would do well hitting in Yankee Stadium where he could take advantage of a short porch in right, but he hit very well in Philadelphia last season compared to his numbers on the road so it would be hard to imagine his overall numbers improving too much.
The Yankees would presumably sign him to a cheap deal with many incentives. That would allow them to abandon him midseason if his numbers are disappointing by the end of June and try to add a DH on the trade market.
