Yankees don’t give out Posada’s No. 20

A couple of quick jersey number notes. The Yankees have not given anybody Jorge Posada’s No. 20 jersey this year, but have given out Mike Mussina’s No. 35 to Michael Pineda. Hiroki Kuroda takes No. 18, Bill Hall has No. 40, Russell Branyan has No. 45, and Manny Delcarmen will get No. 43, via Marc Carig of the Star-Ledger.

One Response to Yankees don’t give out Posada’s No. 20

Interesting point about Mussina's number being given out. He was a great Yankee, but sadly never got a ring, arriving in 2001 a year too late and leaving in 2008 a year too early. I guess the Yankees brass are projecting that Moose will be remembered more as an Oriole, where he spent 10 years, than as a Yankee, where he spent 8 years.

He retired at the top of his game with 270 wins. He will have a shot at the HOF, despite winning 20 games only once, and despite never winning a Cy Young.
