Brett Gardner wants to play better defense this year

Brett Gardner is a beast in the outfield. By most measures he’s the best in the game defensively. He even nabbed his second Fielding Bible award this week while being called the new Carl Crawford.

Gardner isn’t satisfied though.

“I really wasn’t completely pleased with my defense last year,” Gardner told Pete Caldera of the Bergen Record. “I made some mistakes that I don’t normally make and I look forward to having a better year all around.”

“To be honest, I’m still not completely comfortable over there,” Gardner said of left field.

“If I woke up this morning and you put me in center field, I’d be more comfortable than if I woke up and went to left field,” he added. “It’s just the way it is. I’m sure it’d be the same way with Curtis.”

Damn. As it is right now players really have to hit the ball in the gap or rip a screaming liner off the wall to get a hit in left. Can you imagine if he ever gets comfortable out there?
