Cashman denies $16 million bid for Cuban infielder

Yesterday a rumor went around the internet thanks to Jorge Ebro of El Nueva Herald that the Yankees made a $16 million bid for Cuban infielder Adonis Garcia. However, today Brian Cashman denied that there was anything truth to that rumor, according to Chad Jennings of the Journal News.

“That’s not true,” Cashman said. “We have not done that. There’s a $16 million number that we made an offer to somebody. We haven’t made an offer.”

The report also said that the Oakland Athletics made an offer and the team has denied that too so it sounds like there was no truth to the rumor at all. Although that isn’t to say the Yankees aren’t interested, but it sounds like they definitely have not made an offer and it certainly wasn’t $16 million.

Garcia is a 26-year-old infielder who has recently gotten experience in the outfield where the Yankees were supposedly interested in using him. Based on scouting reports, he isn’t as good as Yoenis Cespedes is expected to be now and doesn’t have the ceiling Jorge Soler has either.
