Freddy Garcia can’t be traded until June 15

Just thought I would point this out since that sometimes even I forget. The Yankees are rumored to be shopping Freddy Garcia this spring with at least one report tying them to the Miami Marlins (the Marlin’s rejected their proposal). However, any trade that happens before June 15 would require his┬ápermission┬ásince he signed with the Yankees as a free agent his past offseason.

This doesn’t mean that he can’t be traded, only that he would need to give permission. It seems likely that he would grant permission though as any team trading for him would likely have a need in the rotation and would probably be at least somewhat of a contender. Garcia has said that he likes playing for the Yankees in the past though so it isn’t a forgone conclusion.

Garcia looks like the odd man out of a battle for a rotation spot. CC Sabathia and Hiroki Kuroda are the only two guaranteed spots at this point. Phil Hughes is rumored to have all but locked up another spot, leaving Garcia to battle Ivan Nova and Michael Pineda for the last two spots. Andy Pettitte will be back by May 1st at which time he will knock somebody else out of the rotation.
