Garcia to get x-rays after being hit by comebacker

UPDATE: The Yankees have announced that x-rays came back negative on Garcia’s right hand, according to Marchand. Still, his hand apparently swelled up pretty badly after he left the mound. I imagine this will set him back at least a couple of days.

ORIGINAL POST: Maybe the whole rotation thing will sort it self out after all.

Yankees pitcher Freddy Garcia, who looks like the odd man out of the rotation, was hit on the right hand by a comebacker off the bat of the Blue Jays’ Edwin Encarnacion this afternoon. They are calling it a hand contusion for now, but he is headed to the hospital for x-rays, according to Andrew Marchand of

It’s too early to tell how serious this is until x-rays come back and MRI’s might even be needed for something like this. However, if he misses even one start it could jeopardize his already slim chances at making the Yankees rotation.

I’ll keep you posted with any updates.
