Girardi: CC gets Opening Day, Kuroda gets 2nd game

As we await the new of who exactly is going to make up the backend of the Yankees rotation, manager Joe Girardi confirmed what most of us already suspected today – that his opening day starter will be CC Sabathia and Hiroki Kuroda will pitch the second game of the season, according to Kieran Darcy of

As Darcy points out, this lines Kuroda up to start the Yankees home opener against the Angels a week later. However, with an off-day scheduled it also lines up whoever the No. 3 starter is to start on that day as well. It makes sense that the Yankees would go with the veteran Kuroda over Phil Hughes, Ivan Nova, or Michael Pineda, but nothing is set in stone (technically Freddy Garcia is included in this group).

Rob, given Kuroda's potential importance as our new #2, it'd be nice to see BBD do some kind of write-up on his career and projections for this year.
