Nunez suffers right hand contusion

UPDATE: X-rays came back negative. It’s just a bruise. No word on exactly when he’ll be back.

Eduardo Nunez was hit by a pitch on the right hand during a game against the Phillies on Monday and immediately left the game. Afterwards he was diagnosed with a right hand contusion, according to Jack Curry of the YES Network.

Nunez said that he doesn’t think anything is broken, but he will go in for x-rays as a precaution.

This isn’t a huge deal if nothing is broken. He’s not fighting for a roster spot and should be ready by Opening Day. If it is a broken bone in his hand then he could be at risk to miss a few games to start the year.

If he isn’t ready to go by Opening Day then the Yankees would probably go with either Bill Hall, Jayson Nix, or Ramiro Pena as their reserve infielder.
