If you missed it, yesterday I ran through the list of injured Yankees in spring training. It nine long and I even missed one. That’s worse than it sounds though as none of them are really major and a lot of them aren’t making the team anyway, but the list is growing and now shrinking.
Derek Jeter will be shutdown at least until next Tuesday with what is being called a tender calf and Russell Martin will be sitting out today in a precautionary measure, with a sore left groin that may have stemmed from jumping over Chien-Ming Wang, according to Chad Jennings of the Journal News. Wang, who apparently never learned how to properly run, stumbled and nearly took out Martin with him. Martin was out on the play, but stayed in the game for a few more innings.
Then there was infielder Ramiro Pena, who sprained his right ankle on Thursday while stealing a bag. Pena told George King of the NY Post that it’s nothing serious and he only expects to miss two or three days. Joe Girardi wasn’t as optimistic though. Pena isn’t a huge concern though as he is likely not going to make the Opening Day roster as long as Eduardo Nunez returns from his hand injury and Bill Hall doesn’t get hurt.
