Pineda to the DL with tendinitis

The Yankees got quite a scare yesterday after Michael Pineda complained about shoulder pain following what was by far his worst start of the spring. However, the news isn’t so bad this morning.

The Yankees are placing Pineda on the 15-day DL with tendinitis in his right shoulder, according to Marc Carig of the Star-Ledger. Compared to him potentially needing shoulder surgery, this is pretty good news.

They are expected to be very conservative with his rehab as they should be considering how many starters they have available to pitch at the major league level. So realistically it could be as much as a month, maybe two with the pending return of Andy Pettitte. It’s not just the injury he needs to recover from, but he’ll also need to build up his arm strength back to the point it was last season.
