BBDP April 10: O’Brien strikes out 10, Zoilo continues to mash

Triple-A Empire State: Game suspended in the 4th inning, they had a 2-0 lead.

Bernier and Colin Curtis had RBIs, Ramon Ortiz had thrown 4.0 shutout innings with 5 K.

Double-A Trenton:

Abe Almonte: 0/4 (.333)
Ronnier Mustelier: 1/2 BB, K (.267). Had 2 errors at 3B, and a CS
Dan Brewer: 1/4, K (.273)
“Boilin” Zoilo Almonte: 2/4, R, K (.381). Continues to rake.
Rob Lyerly: 0/2, BB, K (.176)
Cody Johnson: 1/2, BB (.455)
Walt Ibarra: 1/3, 2B (.214)
Craig Heyer: 4.2 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 3 K (1.93 ERA). He’s looked good in both appearances so far, his other one being in Triple-A.
Preston Claiborne: 1.1 IP, 2 H, 5 R, 0 ER, 3 BB, 2 K (0.00 ERA). Those walks will kill you every time. The runs were all unearned, but the walks weren’t, and one of the errors belonged to Claiborne himself.
Kelvin Perez: 1.2 IP, 2 K (0.00 ERA)

High-A Tampa: W 5-4 vs Clearwater. W: Mikey O’Brien

Eddy Sosa: 3/4, 2 R, RBI, BB, K, 2 SB (2) (.235). This was a good game for Sosa, hopefully this gets him going.
Kelvin Castro: 0/4, RBI, 3 K (.316)
Ramon Flores: 1/4 (.118) He may take a little bit of time to adjust since he’s so young.
Rob “Seggy” Segedin: 3/3, 2B, R, 2 RBI, BB (.300). It’s funny how one big game early on in the season can really pad your stats. This was a big game for him, hopefully he can build some momentum.
Kyle Roller: 1/4, K (.105)
JR Murphy: 1/4, RBI (.222) Salvaged the game with a hit in his last at bat.
Zach Wilson: 0/4, 2 K (.300)
Neil Medchill: 1/4, R, K (.316)
Mikey O’Brien: 5.2 IP, 2 H, ER, BB, 8 K (1.59 ERA). Great outing for O’Brien. He’s one of those guys who has done nothing but succeed in the minors so far. The strikeouts were really impressive.
Branden Pinder: 2 IP, 6 H, 3 ER, 3 K (6.75 ERA). It’s a long season, and Pinder has great stuff. This is just a hiccup.
Mark “Monte Python” Montgomery: 1.1 IP, 0 ER, 0 H, 3 K, S(1) (7.71 ERA). Much better this time out. This is the Montgomery we know.

Low-A Charleston: L 0-2 vs Augusta: L: Oliver (0-1). I cannot believe how few runs this team has scored. With all of the preseason hype, it’s pretty shocking, but it’s still very early. Hopefully in due time cream will rise to the top.

Mason Williams: 1/4 (.250)
Cito Culver: 0/4, 2 K (.056). He has been horrific so far. He has struck out more than he’s been on base. 6 K, 1 H, 3 BB
Dante Bichette Jr.: 0/3, K (.300)
Tyler Austin: 1/3, (.222)
Gary Sanchez: 0/3, 3 K (.313) Rough night, he’s allowed though because he’s been great.
Angelo Gumbs: 0/3, K (.000). He’s gotta drop that first hit sometime right?
William Oliver: 5 IP, 5 H, ER, BB, 3 K (1.8 ERA). Pretty good outing. I don’t know much about Oliver, but I’ll try to find out.
Ben Paullus: 2 IP, 2 K, ER, BB, 2 K (2.25 ERA)
Philip Wetherell: 2 IP, H, 3 K (0.00 ERA). Looking very sharp early on. That’s 4 IP, 7 K already on the season.
