BBDP April 12: Austin hits two bombs, Charleston rolls

BBDP MVP: Tyler Austin

Triple-A Empire State: W 7-2. W: Delcarmen (1-1)

Kevin Russo: 2/5 (.316). Russ doin what Russ does.
Francisco Cervelli: 0/5, R, K. Damn! I thought he was gonna start hitting again.
Steve Pearce: 1/3, HR (1), R, RBI, 2 BB, K (.333). He’s hit like this before in the minors, but never for a full season. He’s been pretty good so far. Maybe even better than you would expect out of JoVa.
Brandon Laird: 1/3, R, 2B, 2 RBI, 2 BB (.214). 5 for his last 17 with 2 BB, both coming today. He’s looking much better all of a sudden. He’s well overdue for a breakout. He did have yet another error today though (5).
Colin Curtis: 0/0, R, 5 BB. That’s right, 5 BB. Talk about patience. I think at about walk number 3, I would start getting impatient and swinging at bat pitches.
Ray Kruml: 1/4, 2B, 2 RBI, 2 K (.143)
Manny Banuelos: 2 IP, 3 H, 2 ER, 6 BB (10.13 ERA) I don’t know what’s with the Killer Bees this week, but apparently they’ve been serving some bad honey in the Empire State recently (sorry, that was a bad Killer B joke). Anyway, 6 walks! Apparently it was bitter cold in Buffalo yesterday, and windy. The pitcher for the other team also had 5 walks, and is normally a control guy. I’ll give him a mulligan on this one.
Pat Venditte: 1 IP, K, 0 H, 0 ER (6.00 ERA). Thumbs up.
Manny Delcarmen: 3 IP, BB, 2 K, 0 H, 0 ER (1.35 ERA). Next major league call-up if there’s an injury? Maybe.
Kevin Whelan: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 ER, K (0.00 ERA) Next major league call-up if there’s an injury? Maybe.

Double-A Thunder: L 1-6 vs Akron. L: Marshall

Abe Almonte: 0/4, K (.231)
Ronnier “Musketeer” Mustelier: 2/4, RBI (.348)
Dan Brewer: 0/4 (.200)
Zoilo Almonte: 0/3, BB, 3 K (.360). High K rate, but when your this hot, who cares.
Melky Mesa: 0/4, K (.208)
Walt Ibarra: 2/3  R, 2B (.286). All this guy has done is hit for average.
Brett Marshall: 4 IP, 9 H, 5 ER, 2  BB, 4 K, HR (7.00 ERA). He just needs some time to adjust to Double-A.
Kelvin Perez: 2 IP, 0 H, 0 ER, 2 BB, 3 K (0.00 ERA). Perfect so far.

High-A Tampa: W 5-4 vs Daytona. W: Barreda. S: Arrebato

Eddy Sosa: 2/5, R, 2B, RBI (.222). First two hit game of the year, and he needed it.
Kelvin Castro: 1/5 (.241)
Ramon Flores: 0/4, K (.115)
Rob Segedin: 1/3, R (.321)
Kyle Roller: 2/4, 2B, RBI (.179) 3 for his last 9.
JR Murphy: 3/4, 2 R, 3B, HR (1), 2 RBI (.318). One double away from the cycle today. The guy seems to get a hit in every game. He’s a beast.
Zach Wilson: 0/4, RBI, K (.241)
Neil Medchill: 0/3, RBI, K (.273).
Jose Mojica: 3/3, R, BB, (.316) Perfection for one day.
Shane Greene: 4.1 IP, 4 H, 4 R, 3 ER, 2 BB, K (3.86 ERA). Not as bad of an outing as it looks, but we’d still like to see better out of him.
Kramer “Krame Dog” Sneed: 2.2 IP, H, 0 ER, 2 BB, 3 K (0.00 ERA). Still no earned runs on the season. Too many walks but still doing like he should.
Manuel Barreda: 1 IP, 2 BB, 0 H, 0 ER (18.00). I don’t understand why he is so underwhelming with the scouting report of such great stuff. It seems like he should be striking out way more batters.

Low-A Charleston: W 9-3 vs Rome. W: Cotham. Seems like the run scoring is really starting to take shape as expected.

Mason “Mad Mase” Williams: 2/5, R, RBI, 2 K, 2 SB (4) (.276). 4 SB is what we want to see from him.
Cito Culver: 0/4, 2 K (.045). Here’s a guy we’d all like to see come around.
Dante “Bichette Happens” Bichette: 3/4, 2 R, 2B, RBI, BB, K (.345). Keep rakin’.
Tyler Austin: 2/5, 2 R, 2 HR (2), 3 RBI (.316). Raise your hand if you didn’t expect Austin to be 4 for his last 10 with 2 HR at some point in this season (no one raises hand).
Ben Gamel: 1/5, R (.227). Had an error today (1).
Angelo “Bubba” Gumbs: 2/4, R, 2B, RBI, K (.200). Well-needed good night for him. He’s been picking it up.
Anderson Feliz: 2/4, R, 2B, 2 RBI, K (.381) 8 for his last 16. You have to expect he should get more playing time for the way he’s been dominating lately.
Caleb “Gotham City” Cotham: 5 IP, 6 H, 2 ER, K, HR (3.00 ERA). He’s made a nice transition to starting.
Wilton Rodriguez: 3 IP, H, R, 0 ER, 4 K (0.00 ERA). He’s made a nice transition to relieving.
