Just kidding, but that would be entertaining wouldn’t it? Nuding is a lesser known pitcher in High-A Tampa with great stuff. He was originally brought in as a reliever, but his repertoire was so good the coaches felt they had to give him a shot in the rotation. Last year he had mixed results, but he has no earned runs in 8 IP so far this year. It could be his coming out party.
Triple-A Empire State: W 6-3 vs Syracuse. W: Warren, S: Eppley
Kevin Russo: 2/4, 2 RBI (.310). He has a hit in every game he’s played in this season, good for a 6 game hitting streak.
Francisco Cervelli: 0/5, K (.071). He must be really bummed about this demotion. He’s never been a hitting catcher, but this is uncharacteristic.
Dewayne Wise: 2/3, R, 2B, HR (3), 2 RBI, BB, K (.550). He’s making the choice for who gets called up if there’s an OF injury very easy.
Brandon Laird: 1/4 (.200)
Colin Curtis: 2/4, 2 R, 2B, 3B, K (.267) Nice little game for him
Adam Warren: 6.2 IP, 7 H, 2 ER, 2 BB, K (7.45 ERA). Outdueled former major leaguer Zach Duke in this one. Good rebound start after his first one was a resounding “bleh.”
Double-A Trenton: L 5-8 vs Akron. L: Pope
Abe Almonte: 0/4, 2 K (.206)
Ronnier “Musketeer” Mustelier: 2/4, R, K (.323). He’s 7 for his last 18 (.389) with 2 walks. I can’t imagine he will be in Double-A much longer. He just rakes like it’s his job (because it is his job) at every level he encounters. With Laird still struggling in Triple-A, Mustelier may be more ready to help the major league team.
Dan Brewer: 0/4, 2 K (.167). Off to a bad start to the year. He’s usually high .200s in average.
Zoilo Almonte: 0/4, K (.281)
Melky “Melkman 2” Mesa: 3/4, 2 R, HR (2), 2 RBI (.267). Gotta love it when Mesa has a day like this.
Josh Romanski: 5 IP, 6 H, 3 ER, 2 BB, 3 K (5.23 ERA). Not too shabby.
Ryan Pope: 1 IP, 3 H, 2 ER, 2 BB (9.00 ERA). Quite shabby.
High-A Tampa: W 8-0 vs Daytona. W: Nuding
Eddy Sosa: 0/3, 2 BB, 2 R (.176)
Ramon Flores: 2/5, R, RBI, K (.161). First multi-hit game of the season. Hopefully he gets a few more soon and really gets going.
Rob Segedin: 2/5, R, 3 RBI, 2 K (.324). Starting to catch fire in High-A.
Kyle Roller: 0/3, BB, K (.206) I had always like Kyle Roller as a hitter a bit better, but right now Segedin is looking like the better hitter, which is what scouting reports have said all along. It’s a long season though, and Roller has a lot of time to catch up.
Zachary Nuding: 5 IP, 0 ER, 3 H, BB, 6 K (0.00 ERA). Another great outing for Nuding. Could this year be his coming out party? I hope so.
Mark “Monte Python” Montgomery: 2 IP, 0 ER, 0 H, BB, 3 K (3.38 ERA). He has to be in Double-A by the end of the season. He could be a big part of the bullpen picture after Mariano leaves.
Low-A Charleston: W 8-5 vs Rome. W: Allen
Mason “Mad Mase” Williams: 2/5, R, 3B (.308). Back up over .300.
Cito Culver: 0/5, 2 K (.125). All of the scouting reports right now are saying his swing from the left side is a mess. He faced a lefty today though, so he batted right handed, and still looked bad. This might be a long season for him if he doesn’t make a major adjustment.
Dante “Bichette Happens” Bichette: 2/4, 2 R, RBI, BB, E (2) (.324). All I do is hit hit hit no matter what.
Tyler Austin:4/4, 2 R, 2 2B, BB (.429). Patient approach, roping doubles, making solid contact every time. He is a pure hitter. It may not be long before he forces the team’s hand for a promotion.
Gary Sanchez: 1/4, 2 R, BB, 2 K (.310).
Ben Gamel: 1/4, 2 RBI, BB, K (.233)
Pedro Guerra: 2 IP, 0 ER, H, K (1.5 ERA)
Phil Wetherell: 2 IP, 3 H, 1 ER, 2 BB, K (1.5 ERA). First bad outing of the year, and it wasn’t even that bad.
