BBDP April 22: Austin goes yard and Campos solid yet again

BBDP MVP: Kyle Roller with a HR and two walks. This wasn’t a particularly easy day to pick someone.

Triple-A Empire State game one: W 6-5 vs. Norfolk. W: Whitley (2-1) S: Whelan (4)

Colin Curtis: 0/4, BB (.228)
Jayson Nix: 2/4, 2 R, 2B, BB, K (.500). Strong first appearance of the season.
Dewayne Wise: 2/5, R, 2B, RBI (.439). Still torrid.
Jack Cust: 2/4 with a HR and a double (.322)
Brandon Laird: 1/3, BB, SB (1) (.218) He’s .265/.350 in his last 34 at bats. His slugging is a miniscule .324 though. He’s got the power, he just needs to translate it into games.
Kevin Russo: 0/3, BB, K (.260)
Dellin Betances: 4.1 IP, 3 H, 5 R, 2 ER, 6 BB, 3 K, E (1) (8.83). Take away the control problems, and this isn’t such a bad outing. The walks are so astronomical though, and he has to right the ship before the Yankees give him any consideration for a call-up.
Chase “Whiffley” Whitley: 1.0 IP, 0 ER, 2 BB (3.52 ERA). He’s really shot up the ladder, and he looks like he belongs at this level so far.
Kevin Whelan: 1 IP, H, 0 ER, K (2.25 ERA) Saved his fourth game of the season. Looking sharp in the early going. He’s got 11 K in 8 IP.

Triple-A Empire State vs Norfolk game two: PPD

Double-A Trenton vs Harrisburg: PPD

High-A Tampa: W 6-4 vs Dunedin. W: Turley (2-0) S: Montgomery (3)

Eddy Sosa: 2/4, RBI, K, SB (3) (.258). He’s 12 for his last 40 (.300)
Kelvin Castro: 1/1, R, 2 BB, SB (4) (.241)
Ramon Flores: 0/4 (.196). Can’t seem to shake this slow start.
Rob “Seggy” Segedin: 1/3, 2 R, HR (3), RBI, BB (.295). Gettin some yard work done.
Kyle “K-Roll” Roller: 1/2, R, HR (1), 2 RBI, 2 BB, K (.213). First four bagger of the season. He’s a hitter, so look for him to pick it up.
Shane Brown: 0/3, BB (.250). Made contact every time, just didn’t have any hits fall today.
Jose Mojica: 0/4, RBI (.298) Same as Brown, minus the walk.
Nik Turley: 5.1 IP, 4 H, 3 ER, 4 BB, 7 K (1.93 ERA). The control wasn’t there today, but he still looked pretty good. Still go the W though.
Joel De La Cruz: 1.2 IP, H, 0 ER, 2 K (0.00 ERA) Making his Tampa debut out of the Dominican Republic. He’s 22.
Mark Montgomery: 2 IP, 3 H, ER, BB, 2 K (3.24 ERA). Not too bad.

Low-A Charleston: W 4-3 vs West Virginia for the sweep. W: Checo (2-0) They walked off again today for their eight win in a row.

Anderson Feliz: 1/4, BB, K, SB (3) (.289)
Ben Gamel: 2/4, RBI, 2 K, CS (2) (.250)
Dante Bichette Jr.: 0/4 (.294)
Tyler Austin: 1/4, R, HR (4), RBI, K (.393). That’s four jacks on the season. He’s showing the ability to hit for average and power, and he has a 13 game hit streak going now.
Gary Sanchez: 1/3, R, BB (.356) 10 game hit streak of his own. Also threw a runner out trying to steal second.
Casy Stevenson: 2/3, R, 2B, BB (.529) So far so good. He’s played in six games, and has hit safely in all of them, with three multi-hit efforts.
Cito Culver: 1/3, R (.175) The hit came as a lefty, so that was good.
Jose “Latino Heat” Campos: 6 IP, 8 H, 2 ER, BB, 5 K (1.23 ERA). Another solid outing wit a lot of strikeouts. BTW You like the Eddie Guerrero reference from WWE?

That’s all for today. Shane Greene will pitch tomorrow for High-A Tampa.
