BBDP April 24th: Trenton drops an 11-spot, Laird gets first homer

BBDP MVP: Brandon Laird: 2/4, HR, 2 RBI

Triple-A Empire State: L 3-4 to Pawtucket. L: Mitchell. Mark Melancon got the save in this one. Good to see him in a non-meltdown situation

Colin Curtis: 1/5, 2B, 2 K (.226)
Dewayne Wise: 0/4, K (.400)
Frankie Cervelli: 0/4, K (.146)
Brandon Laird: 2/4, 2 R, HR, 2 RBI (.237). Four for his last 10 with two walks. That’s his first homerun of the season.
DJ Mitchell: 6 IP, 5 H, 4 ER, 2 BB, 6 K, 2 HR (3.13 ERA) Not his most impressive outing, but he kept his team in it and struck out six.

Double-A Trenton: W 11-4 vs Erie. W: Marshall (3-1)

“Honest” Abe Almonte: 3/5, 3 R, 2B, RBI, 2 SB (6) (.288). Off to a very good start. Zoilo didn’t play today for some reason.
Kevin Mahoney: 2/4, 2 R, RBI, BB (.321) Five for his last 11, with 3 SBs. He’s always been an OBP machine, now if only he could show some power we’d really be in business.
Ronnier “Musketeer” Mustelier: 3/5, R, 2 2B, 4 RBI (.358). He moved across about four levels last season and no one was able to get him out. Looks like he’s still way ahead of the competition at this level, I don’t see a readon to keep him around here too much longer at his age. He also played LF today. Foreshadowing?
Cody Johnson: 0/3, RBI, K (.286)
Neil Medchill: 0/2, 2 K (.000). Recently promoted from High-A.
Melky Mesa: 2/4, 2B, BB (.242)
Luke Murton: 1/4, RBI, BB, 2 K (.310)
Walt Ibarra: 3/3, 3 R, 3B, 2 RBI, E (4) (.315) Helluva game for Walt, minus the error.
Brett “Fire” Marshall: 5.2 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 3 BB, 4 K, HR (4.35 ERA). He’s 3-1, and took his ERA from 5.0 to 4.35 today. Nice effort.
Ryan Pope: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 ER, K (4.91 ERA)

High-A Tampa: L 1-9 vs Dunedin. L: Jose Ramirez (1-3)

Eddy Sosa: 0/4, 2 K (.243)
Kelvin Castro: 0/2, K (.219)
Rob Segedin: 1/4, R (.304)
Kyle “K-Roll” Roller: 2/3, RBI, BB, K (.259) Now seven for his last 13.
JR Murphy: 1/4 (.255) Really hovering around that .255 mark right now. He’s gonna get hot soon, I know it.
Ramon “Ray-Flo” Flores: 1/3, 2B, BB, K (.206)
Shane Brown: 2/4, 2B (.250)
Jose Ramirez: 4 IP, 8 H, 4 R, 3 ER, 2 BB, 3 K, HR (6.75 ERA). Not good.
Vidal Nuno: 3 IP, 3 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 2 K (2.92 ERA) Also not good.

Low-A Charleston: W 4-1. W: Cotham (2-0) S: Wetherell: (3)

Mason Williams: 1/5, 2 K (.310)
Ben “The Game” Gamel: 2/5, 3B, 2 K (.262)
Dante Bichette Jr: 0/4, BB, K (.273). Two 0/4 games in a row. Sometimes a hit streak is followed by a little slump.
Tyler Austin: 0/4, R, 2 K (.367) Followed a bunch of 1/4s with this 0/4. He had to cool down at some point, he was hitting unreasonably good.
Gary “Sanchize” Sanchez: 2/4, 2 R, 2B, 2 K, E (4, fielding) (.365) My only complaint is the 11 K in his last 40 at bats. Other than that, stellar. Hit streak is now 11 games.
Angelo “Bubba” Gumbs: 2/4, R, 2B, RBI, K (.216)
Cito “Cheeto” Culver: 1/3, RBI, BB (.183). 10 for his last 38 (.263) which is… much better.
Anderson Feliz: 1/4, 2B, K (.286)
Caleb “Gotham City” Cotham: 5 IP, 4 H, ER, BB, 2 K (2.00 ERA). He has been great in this role so far.
Brett Gerritse: 3 IP, H, 0 ER, 3 K, H (1)(0.00 ERA) Nice debut. He didn’t start the season with the team for some reason.
Phil Wetherell: 1 IP, BB, 0 ER, 2 K, S (3) (0.75 ERA). Won’t last much longer at this level if he keeps this up.

I'd like to see Mustelier at AAA soon. Intriguing.
