BBDP April 25th: Charleston homers its way to 10th straight victory

BBDP MVP: Mason Williams – 4/4 with a HR.

Triple-A Empire State: W 8-6 vs Pawtucket. W: Whitley (3-1) S: Whelan (5)

Colin Curtis: 1/4, 2 R, BB, 2 K, 2 SB (3) (.227)
Frankie Cervelli: 2/4, R, 3 RBI, BB, K (.173) Average is slowly creeping back up. Batted second today.
Dewayne Wise: 1/4, R, BB, K, SB (1) (.388)
Jack Cust: 1/3, R, HR, 3 RBI, 2 BB, K (.308). DHing again. I guess that’s the plan with him.
Brandon Laird: 1/3, RBI, 2 K (.242) Staying hot.
Kevin Russo: 0/3, R, BB, K (.245)
Adam Warren: 5 IP, 9 H, 5 ER, BB, 6 K, 3 HR (6.10 ERA). Three homeruns. He looked very hittable today again despite six strikeouts.
Chase “Whiffley” Whitley: 2 IP, H, 0 ER, 2 K (2.79 ERA) He might be the best reliever on this team.
Kevin Whelan: 1 IP, H, ER, 2 BB, 2 K (3.00 ERA). Got his 5th save of the season. He and Whitley are looking like solid 8th and 9th options.

Double-A Trenton: L 4-10 to Erie. L: Pettitte (0-1)
Abe Almonte: 0/4 (.271)
Walt Ibarra: 0/4, R (.293)
Ronnier “Musketeer” Mustelier: 2/3, 2 R, 2B, 3B, BB (.371) Even in a loss, he’s hitting. Played LF again today.
Cody Johnson: 2/3, R, 2B, HR (5), 4 RBI, BB (.308). Didn’t strike out today for the first time in a while. Nice to see that.
Melky Mesa: 0/4, 2 K (.227)
Luke Murton: 0/4, K (.273)
Kevin Mahoney: 0/3, BB, 2 K (.290)
Andy Pettitte: 5 IP, 7 H, 4 R, 3 ER, BB, 3 K (5.40 ERA). You might look at this as a bad outing, but it was actually good because he’s been needing to get his pitch count up and have some long innings. He got that accomplished today.
Preston Claiborne: 1.2 IP, 4 H, 3 ER, 2 BB, K (3.86 ERA) He’s been a bit inconsistent, but overall pretty good so far. Hopefully something will really click soon.
Kelvin Perez: 1 IP, 2 H, 3 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, K (0.87 ERA)
Ryan Flannery: 1.1 IP, H, 0 ER, 2 K (0.87 ERA) Well, looks like he can get double-A hitters out.

High-A Tampa: W 7-2 vs Brevard County. W: Nuding (2-0) S: Black (1)

Ramon Flores: 1/5, R, 2 K (.206)
Kelvin Castro: 1/5, K (.217)
Rob “Seggy” Segedin: 2/4, 2 R, 2 2B, 2 RBI, BB, K, SB (2) (.315) Nine for his last 19 (.474) safe to say he’s on a tear.
Kyle Roller: 0/5, 2 K (.237)
JR Murphy: 1/5, R, RBI (.250)
Eddy Sosa: 2/4, R, 2B (.257)
Shane Brown: 1/4, 2B, 2 RBI (.250)
Jose Mojica: 1/4, R (.254)
Zach Nuding: 6 IP, 7 H, 2 ER, 3 BB, 7 K (1.29 ERA). He’s 2-0 now, off to a good start to the season. Nardi Contreras mentioned his name as someone who is likely to see time in Trenton this year.
Sean Black: 3 IP, 2 H, 0 ER, BB, 3 K. Was a starter, now he’ll try his hand as a reliever. Looked good today.

Low-A Charleston: W 9-4 vs Lexington. W: Mitchell (1-1). That’s 10 in a row for those who are counting.

Mason “Mad Mase” Williams: 4/4, 2 R, 2B, HR (1), RBI, BB (.347) First homer of the year, looking like a shoe-in for the all-star team.
Anderson Feliz “Navidad”: 2/5, 2 R, HR (1), RBI, K (.296). Moved to the two hole today, responds with a homerun. Looking really good this year and the scouting report is actually pretty good. The Yankees have been waiting for consistency from him, hopefully this is the season.
Dante Bichette Jr.: 0/4, BB, K (.254) Zero for his last 12.
Tyler Austin: 1/5, R, HR (5), RBI, 2 K (.354) In the offseason, everyone said he’d have to develop power. He’s on pace for 31 in the young season.
Angelo “Bubba” Gumbs: 2/5, R, 2B (.232) Five for his last 12 (.416). Another one who’s scouting report is really good.
Cito Culver: 1/5 (.185)
Bryan Mitchell: 5 IP, 2 H, 2 BB, 7 K (2.45 ERA).Four starts. Two have been awesome, two have been awful. If he can gain some consistency he is one of the best in the organization.
Predro Guerra: 2 IP, H, 0 ER, BB, 3 K (1.5 ERA). 22 year old out of Venezuela, formerly of the Minnesota Twins. Unfortunately that means we’ll have to go year to year with him.
Ben Paullus: 0.2 IP, 2 H, 4 ER, 3 BB (7.59) He’s really struggled in the early going, which is a bad sign at this level.
