BBDP April 6, 2012: Dellin Dealin’, Campos Cruisin’

BBDP MVP: Dellin Betances

Triple-A Empire State vs. Lehigh Valley. L 5-6. L: Venditte (0-1)

Brandon Laird: 1/4, RBI (.143)
Colin Curtis: 1/4, K (.143)
Francisco Cervelli: 0/4 (.000). I’m worried he might have taken this demotion really hard.
Dellin Betances: 5 IP, 4 H, 2 ER, BB, 6 K (3.6 ERA). Excellent outing. The lack of walks is encouraging, and so are the abundance of strikeouts.
Pat “Sideshow” Venditte: 2 IP, 4 H, 4 ER, 2 BB, K, HR (18.0 ERA). Rought start to Triple-A. Give him time though he’s very good at working hard and making adjustments.
Kevin Whelan: 1.0 IP, 0 ER, 0 H, 3 K. Doesn’t get more perfect than that.

Double-A Trenton vs. New Hampshire. L 1-3. L: Pope (0-1)

Zoilo Almonte: 0/4, 3 K. His first two games have been horrific. It’s weird given the success he had in Spring Training.
“Honest” Abe Almonte: 2/4, R, RBI, HR (1) (.333). Off to a hot start. Maybe we were focusing on the wrong Almonte this Spring Training
Ronnier “Musketeer” Musterlier: 1/4, K (.375)
David “DAdams” Adams: 0/3, K (.000). Tough two games, but I’m confident he’ll start hitting too soon, the bat is too good not to.
Rob “R-Ly” Lyerly: 1/3, K (.167). Got on the board with his first hit today.
Melky “Melkman 2” Mesa: 0/3 (.286)
Walt Ibarra: 0/3, K (.143)
Graham “Cracker” Stoneburner: 4.0 IP, 5 H, BB, 3 K
Ryan Pope: 1.0 IP, 3 H, 2 ER, 2 BB, K
Ryan Flannery: 1.0 IP, H, ER
Chase “Whiffley” Whitley: 1.2 IP, 3 K. Whiffley sounds like a pretty cool nickname for a reliever.

High-A Tampa vs. Lakeland. L 4-2. L: Montgomery (0-1)

Eduardo Sosa: 1/5, K (.100)
Kelvin “Castrol GTX” Castro: 1/4, BB (.429)
Ramon Flores: 0/5, 2 K (.000)
Rob Segedin: 0/5 (.000)
Kyle Roller: 0/4, K (.143)
JR Murphy: 2/4, 2 R, K (.429). He was my preseason pick to be a fast mover, and he’s proving me right so far. If he keeps up this hitting, it will only be a matter of time.
Zach Wilson: 3/4, K (.500). I expected him to start at Charleston, but there must not have been enough space. Started off nicely.
Shane Greene: 5.0 IP, 4 H, ER, BB, 3 K (1.8 ERA). Solid first start. His stuff has apparently been looking filthy, so this could the first of many.
Branden Pinder: 2.0 IP, H, 2 K (0.00). Also a surprise in High-A, but he is deserving, as he showed today.
Mark Montgomery: 1.0 IP, 2 H, 2 ER, BB, 2 K, BS (18.00 ERA). There shouldn’t be too many of these this season.

Low-A Charleston vs. Rome Braves W 1-0. W: Jose Campos (1-0) S: Philip Wetherell (1)

Mason “Mad Mase” Williams: 2/4, 2 2B (.500)
Cito “Cheeto” Culver: 0/4, 2 K
Dante “Bichette Happens” Bichette: 1/4, 2 K (.250)
Tyler Austin: 0/4, 2 K
Gary “Sanchize” Sanchez: 2/3 (.667)
Ben Gamel: 0/3, K
Angelo “Bubba” Gumbs: 0/3, K
Jose Campos: 6.0 IP, H, 1 BB, 3 K, 0 ER. Dominant first start. They say he’s the real deal, I hope they’re right.
Philip Wetherell: 2 IP, 0 H, 0 ER, 4 K
