BBDP April 9, 2012: Almontes carry Trenton to victory

Triple-A Empire State. L 5-6 vs Syracuse. L: Warren

Francisco Cervelli- 1/5, RBI (.067). Nice to see him get his first hit since the demotion.
DeWayne Wise: 3/4, 2 R, 2B, HR, RBI (.750)
Brandon Laird: 0/4, R (.143)
Colin Curtis: 1/3, RBI, BB, K (.278)
Kevin Russo: 1/4, R, RBI (.286). This is his 4th year in Triple-A. He’s 27. I hope he catches on eventually as a utility guy somewhere.
Ramiro Pena: 1/3, R, 2B, RBI, K (.143)
Adam Warren: 3.0 IP, 7 H, 6 ER, 4 BB, K, HR (18.00 ERA). 3 runs in each of the first two innings. Settled down in the third, but it was too little too late. It’s just one start though.
Pat “Sideshow” Venditte: 3.0 IP, 0 ER,  H, BB, 4 K (7.2 ERA). Much improved from his first appearance. Have to like the strikeouts in Tripe-A too.
Kevin Whelan: 1 IP, H, 0 ER (0.00 ERA)

Double-A Trenton. W 8-3 vs Portland. W: Romanski. S: Whitley

“Honest” Abe Almonte: 3/5, R, RBI, SB (1) (.429). Off to a torrid start. The Almontes strike again.
David Adams: 1/4, R, RBI (.111). Probably still needs some time to adjust. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, the bat is just too good not to hit all year.
“Boilin” Zoilo Almonte: 3/4, 2 R, HR (2), 2 RBI, SB (1) (.353). He’s hot, and has 2 HR already four games into the season.
Rob Lyerly: 0/4 (.200)
Melky Mesa: 1/4, RBI, (.250)
Walt Ibarra: 1/4, R, 2B
Josh “Bromance” Romanski: 5.1 IP, 7 H, 3 ER, 2 BB, 2 K, HR (5.06 ERA). Not a bad first start.
Chase “Whiffley” Whitley: 2 IP, H, 2 BB, 3 K (0.00) Living up to his nickname. It looks like his K rate may be in for a little bit of a bump this year. It’s still too early to tell though. Now just to eliminate the walks.

High-A Tampa: L 6-9 to Clearwater. L: Meyers

Kelvin Castro: 1/4, RBI, K (.333)
Ramon Flores: 1/4, K (.077)
Rob Segedin: 1/4, R, K (.176)
Kyle Roller: 0/4, 3 K (.067) Had his 2nd error of the season today, a throwing error.
JR Murphy: 0/3, BB, 3 K (.214)
Zach Wilson: 1/4, R, 2 K (.375)
Neil Medchill 3/4, 2 R, HR (1), 2 RBI, K, (.333) This offense has been pretty anemic. Good to see Medchill pick up a homerun though.
Andy Pettitte: 3 IP, 2 H, R, ER, 2 K (3.0 ERA). Not a bad rehab start.
Kramer Sneed: .1 IP, K, 0 H, 0 ER (0.00 ERA). Using him as a lefty specialist in the minors? That’s a new one to me.
Zachary Nuding: 3 IP, H, BB, 6 K. Looked really sharp out of relief today. This is probably his future, but I’m pretty sure he’ll be starting most of his games for High-A Tampa.
Brad Meyers let up 7 ER in 1.2 IP.

Low-A Charleston: L 4-7 to Augusta. L: Scottie Allen

Mason Williams: 1/5, RBI (.250)
Cito “Cheeto” Culver: 1/3, 2 R, 2 BB, K (.071). Got his first hit of the year today. Congrats Cito. The walks are encouraging.
Dante Bichette Jr.: 1/5, 2 K (.353). Could have been worse.
Gary “Sanchize” Sanchez: 1/3, RBI, 2 BB (.385). He’s doing everything well right now.
Ben Gamel: 1/3, RBI, 2 BB. Again showing his patience as a hitter.
Angelo Gumbs: 0/3, R, 2 BB, K (.000) Still waiting on that first hit, but the two walks are a step in the right direction.
Mahoney: 2 IP, 3 K (0.00 ERA). They picked this guy up this offseason. So far so good.
Zach Varce: 1 IP, ER, BB (4.5 ERA)
