Deadline to set rosters is 5:00 pm Wednesday

The Yankees have until 5:00 pm on Wednesday to set their roster. 23 spots are locked in as long as nobody gets hurt in this afternoon’s game against the Mets.

The other two spots are expected to be two spots in the bullpen. The first one likely to go to lefty reliever Clay Rapada, but the other spot is probably coming down to David Phelps, D.J. Mitchell, and Adam Warren as the long-man.

Once the rosters are locked in the Yankees are going to have to figure out what to do with outfielder Justin Maxwell. Maxwell is out of options and because of that if he doesn’t make the team he must be traded or released. George Kontos, Bill Hall, and Chris Dickerson have almost no chance at all to make the team and are expected to report to Triple-A.

Rule 5 guys, Cesar Cabral and Brad Meyers will not make the roster, but will stick with the team as they will start the season on the DL. Once they are healthy they must be placed on the active roster or offered back to their original teams.
