Gardner will begin hitting drills on Friday

Brett Gardner has been out with a sore elbow since injuring it making a diving catch agaisnt the Twins back on April 17. The Yankees shut him down with the hopes of having him back and healthy after the 15 day stint on the DL was finished.

He’ll take a step toward coming back on Friday when he will begin hitting drills again, according to Marc Carig of the Newark Star-Ledger.

In Gardner’s place the Yankees have used a platoon of Raul Ibanez and Andruw Jones in left. the Duo has been doing a decent job with the bat in hisĀ absence, but the Yankees could certainly use Gardner’s exceptional defense in left.

He’s eligible to come off the DL on May 3rd.
