Montero hit in face with a pitch

Former Yankees prospect Jesus Montero suffered a decent scare on Monday when he was hit in the face with a pitch during the game. However, after the game he told Larry Stone of the Seattle Times that he was fine. “My head’s OK. Everything’s good,” Montero said.

There has been a lot of debate about whether or not trading Montero to Seattle for Michael Pineda is a smart move considering the events that have transpired after the trade. However, I would warn that this was not a move made for 2012. That deal was about the future, something Brian Cashman stressed at the time. As long as shoulder surgery doesn’t become an eventuality, this is probably a deal that is better evaluated four or five years from now.
