Andy Pettitte will return to the Bronx on Sunday

If you took a look at this week’s game thread you might have noticed something really cool, Andy Pettitte is coming back on Sunday against the Mariners.

That’s probably a good match up for him considering he hasn’t been doing so well in his last few minor league starts and their offense is about the worst in baseball. Andy has said that his stamina is fine though which was the major concern. So hopefully he can get out there and knock some of the rust off.

The Yankees still haven’t named the pitcher he is set to replace. David Phelps is still scheduled to start this week and Ivan Nova is the pitcher expected to pitch Sunday if Pettitte wasn’t around. My guess is that they just push Nova back, but keep him in the rotation and drop Phelps the next time through. Phil Hughes pitched well enough in his last start that the Yankees aren’t likely to drop him just yet.
