BBDP May 18th: O’Brien debuts for Trenton, Allen continues domination of Low-A

BBDP MVP: Mikey O’Brien – 7 IP, 1 ER in his debut with Trenton.

Triple-A Empire State: W 9-8 vs Toledo. W: Figueroa S: Kevin Whelan

Kevin Russo: 2/5, R, 2B, RBI (.280)
Colin Curtis: 3/5, 2 R, RBI, 2 SB (8), CS (1) (.209) Two three hit games in a row. He’ was in desperate need of this.
Steve Pearce: 1/5, R, HR (8), 3 RBI, 3 K (.326)
Ronnier “Musketeer” Mustelier: 2/4 (.320) 13 for his last 38 (.342) and two homeruns in his last 10 games. I can’t wait to see him with the New York Yankees. I am pretty confident he will be there eventually. I don’t believe he has found his level yet, and he’s only got one level left.
Brandon “Bash Brother” Laird: 1/3, 2 BB (.237)
Francisco Cervelli: 1/2, R, HR (1), 2 RBI, 3 BB (.222) Ata boy Frankie. At this point he’s starting to look as good if not better than both of our major league catching options. He’s nine for his last 34 (.264) with four walks (.342 OBP)
Ray Kruml: 1/1, R, HR (1), RBI, BB (.212)
Manny Banuelos: 4 IP, 4 H, 5 ER, 3 BB, 5 K (4.5 ERA) This just shows that he still has a lot to prove before we can say he’s out of the woods with this control problem. Everyone has a bad outing every now and then though.
Nelson Figueroa: 3 IP, H, 2 ER, 2 BB, 4 K, HR (5.31 ERA)
Kevin Whelan: 1 IP, H, 0 ER, 2 BB, K (1.74) Definitely made it interesting.

Abe Almonte: 0/5, RBI, K (.275)
Corban “CoJo” Joseph: 2/4, R, HR (2), RBI , BB, K (.341) Looking great. That’s two homers in four games.
Luke Murton: 0/4, R, BB, K (.270)
Cody Johnson: 1/4, R, HR (10), 2 RBI, BB, 2 K (.281) He’s still young so he can improve, but he’s just another Jorge Vazquez/Shelley Duncan if he can’t stop striking out.
Melky Mesa: 1/5, R (.248)
Kevin Mahoney: 2/4, R, BB, K (.298) He is an OBP fiend.
Yadil Mujica: 2/4, R, 2B, 2 RBI (.441)
Mikey O’Brien: 7 IP, 3 H, ER, BB, 3 K, HR , E (1) (1.29 ERA) First start in Double-A, no adjustment period. Great success! Dude can pitch.

Rob Segedin: 1/4, 2B (.297)
Neil Medchill: 1/3, 2B (.274)

Jose Mojica: 0/3, K (.260)
Nik Turley: 3 IP, 3 H, 2 ER, 0 BB, 3 K , HR (3.05 ERA) Taken out after three innings when he wasn’t doing that bad. That’s a big utto.
Kramer “The Krame Dog” Sneed: 4 IP, 3 H, 0 ER, 3 K, HR (5.4 ERA)
Branden Pinder: 2 IP, 2 H, 0 ER, BB, K (3.8 ERA)

Low-A Charleston: Double header

Game One: L 3-2 to Rome. L: Lewis (0-1)

Mason “Mad Mase” Williams: 2/4, R, 3B, K, CS (.316) Ali Castillo replaced him late in the game.

Dante Bichette Jr: 0/4 (.232)
Tyler Austin: 0/3, BB, 2 K, SB (5) (.278)

Ben Gamel: 1/4, R, 2B (.250)

William Oliver: 1 IP, H, ER, BB, 3 K. This was a suspended game from a couple of months ago.
Scottie Allen: 7 IP, 6 H, ER, 2 BB, 6 K (2.82 ERA) He looks awful good this year. He’s still just 20 years old too. We may be witnessing a resurrection.
Fred Lewis: 2 IP, H, ER, BB, 3 K, HR. Picked up the loss in this one.

Game Two: W 10-5 vs Rome. W: Guerra (3-0)

Angelo “Bubba” Gumbs: 1/3, R, 2 RBI, BB (.265) 17 for his last 45 (.377) He’s on fire.
Cito Culver: 1/4, 2 R, K, SB (9) (.214)
Ben Gamel: 3/4, R, RBI, K, SB (8) (.264) 15 for his last 47 (.319) The power is still missing, but he’s hitting for solid average now. He has one homer and two doubles in the last 10 games.
Tyler Austin: 1/2, R, 2 BB, K, SB (6) (.288) Three walks on the day.
Gary Sanchez: 1/3, R, RBI, BB, K (.315) He was the DH in the second game.
Casey Stevenson: 1/3, R, 2B, RBI (.346)
Kelvin De Leon: 0/4, 2 K (.275)
Francisco Arcia: 4/4, 3 R, 3 2B, 3 RBI (.452) Helluva game from Arcia, he’s been putting forth a lot of those this season. Too bad he’s a career minor league backup.
Wilton Rodriguez: 4 IP, 3 H, 2 ER, 3 BB, 2 K , 2 HR (4.24 ERA)
Pedro Guerra: 1 IP, zeros (1.5 ERA)
Ben Paullus: 2 IP, 3 H, 3 ER, BB, 3 K (9.93 ERA) Yikes… again?

One Response to BBDP May 18th: O’Brien debuts for Trenton, Allen continues domination of Low-A

  1. Marc Perez says:

Cervellis hitting .222 with one homer at AAA and you stand up and say he looks better than both catchers at the major league level. C'mon man, that's not close to true. I'm sure you could try to make an argument offensively, but it would eventually fail. Martin will come out of his slump eventually, and his OBP is actually not even bad right now. Defensively, there's no way that Cervelli is as good as Stewart. Stewart has looked great behind the plate, and his catcher's ERA is less than 2.50. Cervelli is no way better for the team than either of them.
