BBDP May 3: Laird back to hitting, Charleston back to winning

BBDP MVP: Brandon Laird: 2/4, HR, 3 RBI

Triple-A Empire State: L 3-4 vs Rochester. L: Miller (0-1)

Kevin Russo: 2/3, R, BB (.311). Doing his best early on to convince Cashman to take Nix’s place as the utility player.
Frankie Cervelli: 0/4, 3 K (.214).
Dewayne Wise: 0/3, R, BB, K (.333). If Nix is going to play OF, I’d rather see Wise out there.
Brandon Laird: 2/4, R, HR (2), 3 RBI, 2 K (.267) The Triple-A infielders are smelling blood and they want some major league action. Played first today and had an error on a missed throw.
Colin Curtis: 0/3 (.202)
Dellin Betances: 6 IP, 6 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 6 BB, 2 K (6.35 ERA) Can’t seem to get under the six walk mark. Did manage to get through six innings with just two earned runs, gotta look at the positives.

Double-A Trenton: W 9-7 vs Portland. W: Dubee (1-0) S: Flannery (4)

Abe Almonte: 1/4, R, BB, 2 K, SB (8) (.276)
Dan Brewer: 0/4, RBI, BB, 3 K (.191)
Ronnier “Musketeer” Mustelier: 1/4, R, HR (4), 3 RBI (.337) He must have gotten the memo that he needs to hit for power if he wants to be the utility guy for the Yankees. Three homeruns in the last three games.
Cody Johnson: 2/5, R, 2B, HR (6), RBI (.287). I wonder if minor league players do better when they know the major league team is in trouble. A little sense of urgency never hurt anyone I guess.
Melky Mesa: 1/5, R, 2 K (.231)
Luke Murton: 2/5, R (.279)
Kevin Mahoney: 3/4, 2 R, RBI, BB, K (.298)
Gus Molina: 3/5, 2 R, 2B, RBI, K (.400). I don’t understand why he can’t be the backup in Triple-A and have Cervelli the major league backup.
Shaeffer Hall: 5 IP, 8 H, 4 ER, BB, 3 K, HR (4.24 ERA)
Kelvin Perez: 2 IP,  0 H, 0 ER, BB (0.57 ERA) After starting for a good portion of last year, he looks great out of the pen this year. Maybe his stuff plays up a bit.
Ryan Flannery: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 ER, BB, K (1.32 ERA) Fourth save of the season.

High-A Tampa: L 6-12 vs Brevard County. L: Dott

Eddy Sosa: 1/4, RBI, BB, K (.252)
JR Murphy: 1/4, R, BB (.250)
Ramon Flores: 0/4, R, BB (.248)
Rob “Seggy” Segedin: 2/5, R, RBI, K (.302)
Neil Medchill: 1/5, R, 3B, 2 RBI, K (.302) Got demoted back to Tampa.
Kelvin Castro: 0/4, RBI, K (.190)
Kyle Roller: 1/3, R, K (.205)
Jose Mojica: 3/4, 2B, RBI (.282)
Shane Greene: 5 IP, 4 H, 4 ER, 3 BB, 7 K (4.2 ERA). Like the K’s, don’t like the BB’s.
Vidal Nuno: 2 IP  6 H, 4 ER, BB, 4 K, 2 HR (4.41 ERA) No one could get these guys out today.

Low-A Charleston
Ben Gamel: 1/4, RBI, BB (.244)
Angelo Gumbs: 1/4, BB, K, SB (7) (.213)
Dante Bichette Jr: 0/5 (.224) His slump seems to be carrying over to the rest of the top of the lineup.
Tyler Austin: 0/3, R, 2 BB, 2 K (.348) Like the patience. He’s probably not getting too many pitches to hit right now.
Gary Sanchez: 1/5, R, 2 K (.333)
Casey Stevenson: 2/4, R, BB, K (.400)
Anderson Feliz: 3/5, R, 2B, 2 RBI, K, 2 SB (6) (.315) He’s putting together a nice season so far.
William Oliver: 5 IP, 5 H, 0 ER, BB, 3 K (3.04 ERA) He’s done a really nice job so far this season
Daniel Mahoney: 0.2 IP, H, 2 ER, 4 BB (4.76 ERA)
Mariel Checo: 1.1 IP, H, 0 ER, BB, K (1.59 ERA)
Zach Varce: 2 IP, H, R, 0 ER, 2 K (4.15 ERA) Run was unearned but it was on his own errors (2)
Ben Paullus: 1 IP, H, ER, 3 BB, K (9.00 ERA) Got the win (1-0), but didn’t deserve it.
