BBDP May 31st: Sanchize hits two bombs

BBDP MVP: Gary “The Sanchize” Sanchez: 3/5, 2 HR, 5 RBI

Austin Romine is cleared for baseball activities which means he’s on schedule to return in July, via his twitter. Via Andrew Marchand of ESPN, Jose Campos and Manny Banuelos are still both shut down with elbow soreness. He wrote that Cashman also said they would both be back this season at some point without a doubt.

Also, I have decided to spice things up by adding a feature to my system here. This stems from my love of the Super Nintendo and Sega Genesis game “NBA Jam.” When a player has two multi-hit games in a row, or two outings without an earned run, I will mention that “he’s heating up!” If they should have a third multi-hit game in a row, or a third scoreless affair, then I will term that “He’s on fire!” Silly, but these are the sort of things that get me going.

Triple-A Empire State: L 3-0 vs Toledo. L: Mitchell (4-2)

Kevin Russo: 2/4, 2 K, CS (4) (.290)
Ronnier “Musketeer” Mustelier: 1/2, BB, CS (1) (.287) Just his third walk in 24 games since joining Empire State. It’s going to be important for him to take walks if he wants to fit in with the Yankees.
Frankie Cervelli: 1/3, BB, K (.255) 13 for his last 35 (.371) with a double, two homeruns and six walks in his last 10 games, good for a .476 OBP and a 1.048 OPS. Something lit a fire under his ass after a slow start following the demotion.
Brandon Laird: 2/3, BB, K (.232)
Colin Curtis: 0/4, K (.205)
DJ Mitchell: 6.0 IP, 5 H, 3 ER, BB, 7 K (4.42 ERA) I think this was a case of Mitchell getting tired. His first five innings he let up two hits with no runs and seven strikeouts. They trotted him back out for the sixth with a pitch count of 97, and he let up three hits, a walk and three earned runs. He has to learn to throw that many pitches eventually, but this is not something the Yankees customarily do with their Triple-A starters.

Double-A Trenton: W 11-0 vs Erie. W: Marshall (6-2)

“Honest” Abe Almonte: 3/4, R, BB (.268) Zoilo Almonte didn’t play for some reason today.
Corban “CoJo” Joseph: 2/5, 2 R (.314)
David Adams: 2/5, 2 R, 2B, 2 RBI, K (.242) He seems to be hitting his stride.
Cody Johnson: 1/3, 2 R, HR (14), 2 RBI (.276) Definitely the best lefty power bat in the organization right now.
Luke Murton: 2/3, 2 R, HR (6), 2 RBI, BB (.260)
Kevin Mahoney: 2/4, R, 2B, RBI (.295) He’s heating up! 10 for his last 32 (.313), which is pretty consistent with where he’s been all season.
Brett Marshall: 6 IP, 6 H, 0 ER, BB, 2 K (2.44 ERA) HE’S HEATING UP! He threw 73 pitches in this outing. I’m not entirely sure why he would be taken out after six innings with just 73 pitches. It’s not like he should be on an innings limit, he threw 140 innings last season. Color me confused and possibly agitated depending on the reason for this.
Ryan Flannery: 1 IP, Zeros (1.8 ERA)

High-A Tampa: L 9-10 vs Clearwater in 13 innings. L: Kahnle (0-1)

Ramon “Ray-Flo” Flores: 4/7, R (.270)
Kyle Higashioka: 1/5, R, HR (4), 3 RBI, BB, K (.189)
Rob Segedin: 0/5, BB, K (.287)
Kyle Roller: 1/5, R, 2B, BB, 2 K (.231)
Kelvin Castro: 3/5, 2 R, 3B, 3 RBI, 2 K (.216)
Sean Black: 4 IP, 9 H, 7 ER, 2 BB, K (7.4 ERA) You had to know this was coming given his track record as a starter
Manuel Barreda: 2 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 1 ER, BB, 4 K, HR (3.47 ERA) Not his best.
Rigoberto Arrebato: 3 IP, 0 H, 0 ER, BB, 3 K (3.25 ERA)
Mark “Monte” Montgomery: 2 IP, 0 H, 0 ER, BB, 4 K (1.35 ERA) 26.2 IP, 43 K, 14.5 K/9 on the season.
Tom Kahnle: 2 IP, 3 H, ER, BB, 3 K (4.61 ERA)

Low-A Charleston: W 13-2 vs Greenville. W: Brett Gerritse (1-1) Charleston has scored 12 + runs in four of their last five games. The only one they didn’t was an abbreviated seven inning game.

Angelo “Bubba” Gumbs: 1/4, 2 R, HR (6), 3 RBI, 2 BB (.268) Four homers in last six games.
Cito “Cheeto” Culver: 2/5, R, 2B, 2 RBI, BB, CS (4), PO (.227) Seven for his last 19 (.368) now.
Dante Bichette: 1/5, R, HR (1), 2 RBI, 2 K (.262) Finally the elusive first homerun of the season. Just one for five, but I’m sure he’ll take it.
“Stone Cold” Tyler Austin: 2/4, 3 R, 2 2B, BB, K (.327) 20 for his last 42 (.465). His on base percentage is .520 during that span. Yankees Analysts wonder when the Yankees should promote Tyler Austin to High-A. The time is approaching rapidly. He has no homeruns in that span though. SMH Tyler, SMH.
Gary “The Sanchize” Sanchez: 3/5, 2 R, 2B, 2 HR (7), 5 RBI (.295) Now five homers in the last seven games.
Case Stevenson: 0/5, 2 K (.280) The only one to go hitless today.
Kelvin De Leon: 2/4, 2 R, 2B, BB, K (.273)
Wilton Rodriguez: 4 IP, 2 H, R, 0 ER, 2 BB, 3 K (6.12 ERA)
Brett Gerritse: 3 IP, 2 H, ER, 2 BB, K (4.4 ERA)
Ben Paullus: 2 IP, H, 0 ER, K (7.92 ERA)

Just noticed. Russell Branyan is finally starting to play. Down in Tampa.

    • Greg Corcoran says:

He is… I will start to update his progress for you. I was leaving him out since he's technically not a prospect, but I'm sure people would like to hear the updates on him.

      • Mike Sommer says:

No problem. I noticed he homered last night, and after being out this long with that back issue…

  2. DerekJ says:

Is Corban Joseph moving to up Scranton? I read that somewhere today. If so who is being cut or DL'd?
