BBDP May 9th: A reliever? Betances says “Not so fast!”

BBDP MVP: Dellin Betances – 8 IP, 7 K, ER

Triple-A Empire State: W 2-1 vs Columbus. W: Betances (2-2) S: Whelan (8)

Brett Gardner: 1/2, R, 3B, 2 BB, K (.600) Looking forward to seing him back with the team. Cole Garner replaced him late in the game.
Kevin Russo: 1/3m RBI, K, SB (5) (.323)
Steve Pearce: 1/3, R, HR (5), RBI, BB (.340) At least there’s someone there if Tex goes down with an injury.
Ronnier “Musketeer” Mustelier: 2/4, 2B (.316) Not yet at the level he belongs in my opinion. Hint: He can cut it in the majors.
Brandon Laird: 0/4, 2 K (.234)
Frankie Cervelli: 1/3, 2 K (.218)
Colin Curtis: 0/3, K (.198)
Yadil Mujica: 0/3 (.222)
Dellin Betances: 8 IP, 2 H, ER, 2 BB, 7 K, HR (5.2 ERA). He’s needed this for a while. Walking two in eight innings doesn’t necessarily establish you as a control artist, but it’s a major step in the right direction.
Kevin Whelan: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 ER, 2 K (2.35 ERA) He and Whitley represent excellent relief depth in Triple-A.

Double-A Trenton: L 1-5 vs Reading. L: Hall (2-4)

Abe Almonte: 1/4, 2 SB (12) (.276) Turning in a fine season so far.
Dan Brewer: 0/4, K (.200)
Corban Joseph: 0/3, BB, E (1) (.333)
Cody Johnson: 0/4, K (.265) Slumpin’
Melky Mesa: 2/4, R, HR (7), RBI, K (.243) He only had nine homeruns all last season. He’s 13 for his last 42 (.310). He may be taking Zoilo Almonte’s place as the “future” right fielder. I put “future” in quotes because it’s far more likely the Yankees get one in free agency.
Luke Murton: 1/4 (.256)
Kevin Mahoney: 0/2, BB, K (.279) He truly is an expert at getting pitchers to walk him.
Shaeffer Hall: 7 IP, 5 H, 5 R, 3 ER, BB, 3 K, HR (4.17 ERA)
Francisco Rondon: 1 IP, H, 0 ER, BB, K (4.35 ERA)

High-A Tampa: L 3-4 vs Jupiter. L: Sneed (0-3)

Eddy Sosa: 0/4, K (.244)
JR Murphy: 1/4, R (.229)
Ramon “Ray-Flo” Flores: 1/3, R, RBI, BB, K, CS (2), E (2) (.248). Another who’s great at drawing walks, and at such a young age.
Rob Segedin: 0/4, 2 K (.295)
Kyle Higashioka: 0/3, R (.182)
Kyle Roller: 2/3, 2B, RBI (.227) Two multi-hit games in a row, four game hit streak. Hopefully this gets him jump started.
Jose Ramirez: 6.2 IP, 5 H, 3 ER, BB, 3 K, 2 HR (4.89 ERA) Not terrible
Kramer Sneed: 1.1 IP, H, ER, 3 BB, K
