Gardner headed to AAA to rehab elbow injury

Brett Gardner has been out for three weeks now since hurting his elbow making a diving catch against the Twins, but he will take a big step toward his return on Monday.

Gardner will head to Rochester on Monday to rehab with the Empire State Yankees on Monday, according to Chad Jennings of the Journal News. He is expected to play in two or three games before heading back to the Bronx to re-join the Yankees.

The Yankees suffered big time without him and fellow outfielder Nick Swisher in the Yankees lineup last week. They were often forced to use Raul Ibanez in the outfield, always a disaster, and even had to use the likes of Jayson Nix and Dewayne Wise out there too.
