BBDP June 2nd: Double headers galore and a Sanchize homerun

BBDP MVP: Gary “The Sanchize” Sanchez – 2/4, HR, 2 RBI. He’s earned quite a few of these recently.

Triple-A Empire State: Double header

Game one: L 1-5 to Norfolk. L: O’Connor (1-2)

Kevin Russo: 0/4, 2 K (.284)
Corban Joseph: 1/4, K, CSĀ  (1) (.300)
Brandon Laird: 0/4, K (.226)
Ronnier “Musketeer” Mustelier: 2/3 (.301) Could the Yankees not use a consistent hitter right now? Not sayin’ he should be promoted yet but I am sayin’ it should come soon if this performance keeps up.
Russel Branyan: 1/3, K (.333) Steve Pearce out, Branyan in. Yankees got some money from the Orioles for Pearce, hope that doesn’t come back to haunt them.
Colin Curtis: 2/2, BB (.216)
Chase “Whiffley” Whitley: 3 IP, 2 H, 0 ER, 2 BB, 3 K (3.30 ERA) He’ll at least get a cup of coffee later this year.

Game two: L 1-3 to Norfolk. L: Figueroa (3-2)

Kevin Russo: 1/3, K (.290)
Corban Joseph 1/3 (.333)
Brandon Laird: 1/3 (.230)
Ronnier Mustelier: 0/3 (.290)
Russel Branyan: 1/3, R, 2B (.333)
Frankie Cervelli: 1/3, RBI (.252)
Colin Curtis: 0/2 (.205)
Nelson Figueroa: 6 IP, 6 H, 3 ER, BB, 3 K (4.41 ERA)

Double-A Trenton: Double header

Game one: W 3-2 vs New Hampshire. W: Pope (3-4)

Abe Almonte: 0/6, BB, 3 K, SB (18) (.260)
Jose Pirela: 3/7, R, HR (1) , 2 RBI (.286)
David Adams: 2/5, 2B, BB (.254) Six for his last 18 (.333)
Cody Johnson: 0/5, BB, 4 K (.269)
Zoilo Almonte: 1/6 (.272)
Luke Murton: 0/5, BB, 3 K (.252)
Kevin Mahoney: 3/5, R, BB, K (.306)
Vidal Nuno: 7 IP, 2 H, 0 ER, BB, 5 K (0.00 ERA) He’s this year’s Jose Quintana. Maybe after seeing Quintana’s success with the White Sox they’ll make sure this one doesn’t get away.
Preston Claiborne: 1 IP, 0 ER, BB (3.41 ERA)
Ryan Flannery: 2 IP, 2 H, 0 ER, BB, K (1.67 ERA)
Kelvin Perez: 3 IP, H, 0 ER, 2 K (0.8 ERA) Triple-A soon?
Ryan Pope: 1 IP, 2 H, 0 ER, 2 K (4.67 ERA)

Game two: 5-5 in the 11th inning currently. That’s 26 innings and counting in just two days. May need some reinforcements soon, and I’ve got an idea about who should provide them (eh-hem Mark Montgomery eh-hem) I’ll finish this game off tomorrow.
Abe Almonte: 1/3, R, 2B, 2 BB, SB (19) (.261) If he can learn to hit for either more power or better average, watch out.
Kevin Mahoney: 0/5, K (.295) Moved up in the lineup, responds with a bad oh fer.
Zoilo Almonte: 1/5, R, SB (4) (.267) Doing something positive in every game.
Cody Johnson: 1/4, R, HR (15), RBI, 2 K (.268) Doesn’t seem to like going a full day without a homer, but also doesn’t seem to like going a full day without multiple strikeouts. It’s the elephant in the room, but not in the classical sense because it’s been talked about from day one.
Luke Murton: 0/4, R, BB, 2 K (.245)
Damon Sublett: 2/4, R, HR (1), 2 RBI, BB (.231)
Jose Pirela: 2/4, RBI, BB, K, SB (1) (.308)
Mikey O’Brien: 6 IP, 10 H, 5 ER, 5 K, HR (3.65 ERA) Could have been better, but he still went six innings and struck out five.
Francisco Rondon: 3 IP, H, 0 ER, BB, K (2.78 ERA)
Preston Claiborne: 2 IP, 0 ER, 0 H, 2 K (3.21 ERA) The bullpen at this level is looking good, and it’s only gonna look better when Montgomery arrives.

High-A Tampa: Double header

Game one: L 0-2 to St. Lucie. L: Nuding (4-2)

Ramon “Ray-Flo” Flores: 1/3, 2B (.271)
JR Murphy: 0/3 (.230) I was hoping the 5/5 game would light a fire, but alas he has been 3/20 ever since (.150). He’s a paper all-star (High-A all-star this season).
Rob “Seggy” Segedin: 1/3, 2B (.288) All-Star and deserving of it.
Tyson Blaser: 1/3, K (.361) I’m intrigued enough to request more playing time for Blaser.
Zach Wilson: 1/3, 2B, E (5) (.204) Five errors in limited playing time.
Zach Nuding: 3 IP 3 H, 2 ER, 2 BB, 4 K (3.88 ERA) Not sure why he was taken out so early in this one.
Aaron Dott: 3 IP, 2 H, 0 ER, 2 BB, 2 K (2.08 ERA) He’s been a rock in this bullpen. I’m interested to find out what his dealio is and I’m gonna find out.

Low-A Charleston: L 4-10 to Greenville. L: Allen (1-4) It’s no surprise to see a team light Allen up, but this Greenville team is legit. Turns out they’re an affiliate of the Mets, and they are probably the one team in Low-A that will challenge the River Dogs. They can hang with the Dogs in slugging and it appears they have better pitching… right now.

Mason Williams: 1/5 (.282) Hang in this Mase, get yourself out of this funk and you will be rewarded with top 100 status across the board.
Dante Bichette Jr: 0/5, E (10) (.251)
“Stone Cold” Tyler Austin: 2/3, 2 R, BB (.327) 10 walks in eight games. His patience impresses me to no end for such a young player.
Gary “The Sanchize” Sanchez: 2/4, R, HR (8), 2 RBI, K (.305) Okay, I officially don’t care whether JR Murphy is ready for a promotion, once the All-Star break is over Sanchez has to be in High-A, and Murphy hasn’t earned an equal time share this year. Sanchez should catch the majority of the games, and Murphy should explore other positions while assuming backup catching duties. If he starts to hit, promote him to Double-A and let him catch again.
Angelo Gumbs: 1/4, R, 3B, K (.262)
Rey Nunez: 1/3, 2 RBI, BB (.270) This 21 year old is really starting to click at this level.
Phil Wetherell: 2 IP, H, ER, BB, K (3.18 ERA) I am no longer holding it against any pitcher for letting up earned runs to this team.
