No fines issued to Martin or Diaz

In a bizarre scene earlier in the week, Yankees catcher Russell Martin called out home plate umpire Laz Diaz after the umpire told him that he had to earn the privelidge to throw the ball back to the pitcher when a new ball was put into play.

It certainly seemed odd and potentially something that Diaz could be fined or suspended for. Or if not Diaz getting some kind of suspension, Martin maybe getting a fine or a suspension for calling out the umpire, something MLB is a little touchy about.

Unexpectedly, it seems like nothing will happen.¬†Former Yankee manager Joe Torre is in charge of such a thing and he told Sweeny Murti of WFAN that no fines were imposed. So that’s the end of that…at least until the next time the Yankees draw Diaz as their umpire. Then maybe they’ll be in for some retribution calls.
