Rumor: Yankees scouting Wandy Rodriguez

It seems like every time the Yankees have looked to add pitching since they missed out on Cliff Lee back in the 2010/2011 offseason Wandy Rodriguez‘s name has come up. Don’t expect it to stop this deadline season.

The Yankees have been one of a handful of teams scouting Rodriguez’s last couple of starts down in Houston, according to Jon Paul Morosi of Fox Sports.

They scouted him quite a bit a year ago too and ownership nearly pushed for a deal before Brian Cashman decided that he wasn’t worth the minor upgrade he represented to the pitching staff at the time. This year the pitching staff is even deeper and he still doesn’t represent much of an upgrade over any of the five they have, if he is one at all.

Expect his name to keep surfacing around here pretty much until he is finally traded out of Houston, I just don’t see a deal happening. Not unless somebody gets hurt then it’s possible they could go after him as a cheaper alternative to some other pitchers on the trade market.
