Yankees 2012 13th round draft pick: James Pazos

With their 13th pick in the 2012 MLB First-Year Player draft, the Yankees selected James Pazos, a 6-foot-3, 220-pound left handed pitcher out of the University of San Diego.

Pazos was initially drafted out of high school by the Rays in the 40th round of the 2009 draft, but elected to go to JUCO instead. He played one season at Chandler-Gilbert Community College before he transferred to San Diego. His first year in San Diego he had a 3.40 ERA, 41 strikeouts, and 24 walks in 42.1 innings. His second year, his junior year, he had a 2.14 ERA, 63 strikeouts, and 21 walks in 63 innings.

A lefty with a funky delivery, Pazos sits 89-92 mph with his fastball and occasionally touches 93. He also has a slider and is developing a changeup. Starting just five games at San Diego, he’ll likely pitch out of the bullpen for the Yankees too.

  1. Cathy Dadasiewicz says:

We met James Pazos 19 years ago when he was in preschool; he was my sons best friend. After preschool, they attended different elementary and Jr. High schools, but met up again as freshman in high school, and once again became best friends. My son Daniel and James played football together all 4 years and our home was his 2nd home. Being from NY and anavid NY Yankees fan (we have a NY Yankees bedroom) I would tell James that when the Yankees drafted him he needed to remember where he came from, and not forget us. We are so excited. GOOD LUCK JAMES! Cathy Dadasiewicz and Family
