With their 26th round draft pick in the 2012 MLB First-Year Player draft, the Yankees selected Charles Haslup, a 6-foot-4, 200-pound right handed pitcher out of the University of Maryland College Park.
The 20-year-old Haslup is extremely skinny (200-pounds is by far the heaviest he’s listed anywhere), but has a build where he has potential to fill out quite a bit. He was a reliever at Maryland and in 21 games he had a 2.64 ERA, 44 strikeouts and 20 walks in 44.1 innings.
His fastball sits in the low 90′s that he compliments with a slider that is still under development. Command seems to be an issue with him as 20 walks in 44.1 innings is no small number.
