With their 29th round pick of the 2012 MLB First-Year Player draft, the Yankees selected Jose Diaz, a 6-foot-1, 178-pound left handed pitcher out of the Advantage Learning Institute High School.
Diaz is a projectable 17-year-old out of Puerto Rico with a commitment to Central Arizona Community College. The youngest player the Yankees have taken in the draft so far, his fastball sits in the 86-88 mph range, occasionally touching 91. He also has a slider which reports say he will drop his arm slot to throw a la David Cone.
