Yankees 2012 37th round draft pick: Charles Basford

With their 37th round pick in the 2012 MLB First-Year Player draft, the Yankees selected Charles Basford, a 6-foot-2, 210-pound right handed pitcher out of Samford University in Alabama.

Initially the 21-year-old senior wanted to go to Mississippi State out of high school but instead he went to Pensacola Junior College and then Samford. Teammates with 33rd round pick Saxon Butler, Basford had a 3.65 ERA with 58 strikeouts and 30 walks in 106 innings over 16 starts this season.

It looks like the Yankees are just stockpiling arms at the back of the draft.
