Yankees sign Cuban lefty Omar Luis Rodriguez

The Yankees missed out on a pair of Cuban outfielders this offseason, but they did come away with a consolation prize – 19-year-old left handed pitcher Omar Luis Rodriguez, according to Jesse Sanchez of MLB.com.

The Yankees paid $4 million for Rodriguez which¬†tops the most they’ve ever given to an amateur player including Andrew Brackman ($3.35M), Gary Sanchez ($3M), and Wily Mo Pena ($2.44M).

Rodriguez has a full arsenal of five pitches including a fastball that tops out at 93 mph. None of his pitches are described as plus-plus, but reports say he has strong command and pitch-ability.
