CC Sabathia set for a July 17 return to Yankees

So far CC Sabathia has missed a pair of starts and despite the fact that the Yankees have done well in his absense, they would like the big man back as quickly as possible. It appears they won’t have to wait much longer as he is set to return from his groin strain as soon as he’s eligible to come off the DL on July 17.

“I’ll be ready. I feel pretty good,” Sabathia told Bryan Hoch of “My arm feels great, I haven’t felt the injury. I would assume that I’ll go out and be ready to go.”

CC went down at the same time as another Yankees starter, Andy Pettitte, and it took the duo of Freddy Garcia and David Phelps to replace them both. Phelps clearly is part of the team’s long term plans while Garcia is not, but Sweaty Freddy has pitched well enough that it seems likely he will stay in the rotation when CC returns.
