Joba to pitch in a rehab game on Sunday

So I got a little ahead of myself thinking that Joba Chamberlain might be ready to pitch sometime this weekend.

Joba will indeed throw a bullpen in the Bronx in front of Yankees coaches today, but after that he will make at least one more rehab appearance, probably with Double-A Trenton, on Sunday before being activated, according to Mark Feinsand of the NY Daily News.

Cashman wouldn’t say if that will be his final rehab appearance, but it probably will be. They’ll probably want him to have at least one day off after pitching Sunday so perhaps he’ll be ready to go Tuesday against Baltimore. Either way, his rehab assignment is only for 30 days which means the Yankees have to activate him by August 8.
