The Yankees have lost quite a few players to injuries and especially recently they seem to be piling up. However, the latest injury to Mark Teixeira is not expected to alter their trade plans, according to Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports.
Rosenthal added that the Yankees are continuing their search of a defensive-type third baseman.
Of course, Rosenthal is going off the idea that Teixeira’s x-rays were fine. He’s going to get a MRI this afternoon and if that doesn’t come back as rosy then there is a very good chance that they might scramble to get something done.
This is precisely why Brian Cashman does his due dilligence on everyone available though. If he has to jump into an unexpected trade market like this then he’ll have a good idea of what’s out there and how much it will cost.
If the news is worse than expected, the Yankees would shop around for a first baseman, but they could also use Nick Swisher there and find another outfielder. It doesn’t seem necessary at this point though as Teixeira’s injury is only expected to be minor.
