Rumor: Yankees interested in Rafael Betancourt

The Rockies are shopping their reliever Rafael Betancourt and the Yankees are among the teams that are supposedly interested in the righty, according to Troy Renck of the Denver Post.

The 37-year-old Rockies closer has a 2.92 ERA, a 9.2 K/9 and a 2.4 BB/9 over 37 innings so far this season. Those are similar to his career numbers of 3.17, 9.6, and 2.1 respectively.

With Joba Chamberlain poised to return any day now it doesn’t seem likely that the Yankees will make a trade for a reliever over the next two days, but they have been monitoring the market for a while. It’s possible that GM Brian Cashman bites if he finds a deal he likes.
