Earlier we heard that it wasn’t out of the question that the Yankees might land Chase Headley from the Padres, but that is looking less likely now.

Headley, who is hitting .277/.380/.484 away from San Diego this season, has been the biggest name connected to the Yankees as a possible third base replacement for Alex Rodriguez. He would cost a lot in prospects, but is under team control through 2013 and could potentially be slotted into right field as a Nick Swisher replacement next year.
All rumors connecting Headley and the Yankees were loose at best to begin with. It seems very unlikely that a deal will happen unless Brian Cashman is able to get something done on his terms.
