The Yankees are supposedly interested in finding a speedy, defensive type outfielder to replace Brett Gardner, but one name that fits that description whom they aren’t interested in is Juan Pierre, according to Jon Heyman of CBS Sports.
This is a bit of a surprise considering the fact that Pierre is one of the closest players in the game to matching Gardner’s skill set. He’s also not the type that would be very expensive in a trade. However, the Phillies are either asking for too much or the Yankees scouts just don’t think he’d be enough of an upgrade to warrant a trade.
Pierre, 35 next month, is hitting .305/.344/.371 with 21 stolen bases in 25 attempts all while playing left field this season. He is a career .296/.345/.363 hitter.
