Trade Rumor: Yankees still seen as longshots to land Headley

The deadline is getting closer and closer and there doesn’t seem to be a whole lot of action going on. One of the bigger names on the market is Padres third baseman Chase Headley, whom the Yankees have been connected to through trades.

Jon Heyman of CBS Sports puts the chances of Headley being dealt today at 50-50 and lists five teams that are still interested including the Yankees, but notes that they are longshots.

The Yankees would like Headley, who is under team control through 2013 and has great numbers away from his spacious home ball park in San Diego. They could use him to replace Alex Rodriguez now and then Nick Swisher next season. However, they are very hesitant to give up any of their big prospects in any deals which at this point seems like a deal breaker for San Diego.
